Jake’s Personal Journey

To understand SmithRx is to understand the healthcare journey of its founder, Jake Frenz. His story is one that is deeply relatable to many Americans. At 22, Jake stepped into a caregiving role during his father’s battle with cancer. Soon after, he faced his own cancer diagnosis, one that threatened the amputation of his leg. Years later, he again navigated the complexities of managing specialty medications while caring for his mother during her long-term illness.

A Broken Benefits System

Jake’s personal experiences underscored the profound failings within the U.S. healthcare system, creating a deep connection to the struggles many face when trying to access necessary treatment.

These systemic inefficiencies led Jake to establish SmithRx, with a mission to bring transparency and fairness to pharmacy benefits management—an area often defined by opacity and injustice. Today, that mission continues to drive a broader transformation toward equity, efficiency, and genuine human compassion in healthcare.
