I started SmithRx in 2016 after working within healthcare payers (Anthem and Collective Health) and witnessing the inefficiency and lack of transparency with which PBMs operated. PBMs have become a major source of cost and confusion for American employers due to their antiquated technology and lack of client-alignment, and SmithRx was founded to change that.

At SmithRx we’ve built a new type of PBM from the ground up. Our technology is built on modern, modular, cloud-based software. Our business model is 100% transparent. We integrate innovative programs right into our core platform to make it as easy as possible for our clients to save money. When we put this all together,

we end up with a solution that transcends the definition of “PBM”, and which we’ve started calling a Drug Acquisition Platform (DAP). While PBMs create complexity and make back-room deals for rebates, DAPs like SmithRx use technology to find and deliver the lowest cost drug.

Working from our offices in San Francisco and Salt Lake City, our team is dedicated to changing the way PBMs work for the better. We take pride in undertaking our work with the precision, craftsmanship, and tenacity of a smith – which is how we got our name.
